Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005

You can help advance life-saving medical research:

Please call and/or fax your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator. When calling, ask to speak to the Health Research aide. Whether you speak live to the staffer or leave a voicemail, please convey the following message:

When calling your REPRESENTATIVE/SENATOR say:

"I am a constituent of Representative/ Senator ________. I am urging the Congressman/woman to support stem cell research and co-sponsor HR 810 (House) or S. 471 (Senate), The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. This is a bipartisan bill
that will expand the current federal policy on embryonic stem cell research to allow for federal funding on stem cell lines that meet clear ethical guidelines, which is needed for scientists to explore the full promise of this research.

Continue with these talking points:

[Under these guidelines] None of the federal funds will be used to finance the extraction of the stem cells from the embryo. The federal funds will be used for research on the stem cell lines once they are in existence. Furthermore, the federal funding will apply to stem cells lines derived from excess IVF embryos that were produced for the purpose of reproduction, that are no longer needed, and that are donated under informed consent.

Embryonic stem cells have immense potential to be used to treat and enhance our understanding of many debilitating diseases.

(Tell him/her about your personal connection to stem cell research.)

I strongly urge Representative/Senator ______ to cosponsor H.R. 810/ S. 471 to move this important field of research forward.

Please call me at ____ or mail me a letter at_____ to let me know if Representative/Senator ______ will sign on.  I eagerly await your response.

Tell your friends and family to call their legislators in support of federal funding on new stem cell lines!
